There's nothing like a provisional patent.
What have you filed a provisional patent application
It simply enter a date of filing. Is only useful if not ultimately file a provisional patent application within one year from the date of filing of a preliminary nature.
If you do nothing more than submission of the provisional application can be left with nothing.
